How Rent to Own Trailers Work
No credit check rent to own. Here's the whole process in plain English: what you bring, what it costs, and when it makes sense.
The short answer
Rent to own is not a traditional loan with principal and interest. You make a low down payment, sign the contract, take the trailer home, and make regular payments. There's no credit check and no income verification, and it does not affect your credit. For a quick overview, see our rent-to-own page.
Step by step
- Pick your trailer. Browse inventory online or come to the lot at 555 S. Erie St., Mercer. New and used both qualify.
- Get pre-approved. Fill out the pre-approval form from home.
- Bring your documents. Driver's license, insurance card listing you as a driver, and a second ID. Over 6,000 lb GVWR, also a utility bill with your address.
- Make your down payment and sign. Pay with cash or card, credit or debit, with no card fees, same as cash. The whole process takes about 15–30 minutes.
- Hitch up and go. Make your regular payments, or pay it off early anytime with no penalty.
What does it cost?
There's no interest rate, because it isn't a traditional loan. To be straight with you: if you go the full term, you pay a little over double the trailer's price. There are several terms. Most people choose 48 months for the lowest payment, then pay it off whenever they want. Paying off early saves money, and there's no penalty.
Return or upgrade after 4 payments
After 4 payments (4 months), you can return the trailer free and clear, or upgrade or downsize anytime after 4 payments.
Is rent to own worth it?
If you have the cash, paying outright costs the least, and you can pay by card with no fees. Rent to own makes sense when:
- You need the trailer now for work
- Your credit is bad or thin, or you'd rather not have it checked
- You'd rather keep your cash free
What you'll need
- A valid driver's license
- An insurance card that lists you as a driver
- A second form of ID (medical card, Social Security card, carry permit, etc.)
- For trailers over 6,000 lb GVWR: a utility bill with an address that matches yours
You must be 18 or older.
